Chris Moss in her studio

Christine sculpts horses in materials suited to the characteristic she
wishes to convey. Her wire pieces are 'air sketches', quickly created to capture the essence of horses in dynamic motion whilst her bold, wooden sculptures, with wood grain enhanced to emphasise the animal's mass, reflect the solid 'presence' of stationary horses.

"My early foray into horse sculpture was small scale with wire swiftly bent and twisted in an attempt to describe animated horses in explosive, dynamic poses. The need to increase scale led me into bending and welding mild steel rod and I gravitated to carving them in wood relatively recently."

"Initially beginning with small, single block carvings, I quickly moved on to laminated composite forms to make larger sculptures and began experimenting with scorching, wire brushing and wax polish finishing techniques to emphasis the solidity and mass of the animals. As I gain confidence I hope to combine the elements of strength, power and grace I see in the creatures themselves."
