Ian Burdall

Updated 2 August 2009

Saltaire based photographer, Ian Burdall has been fascinated by photography since he was a child when he used to take photos of the places he visited as a family. “I used my Dad's camera to take pictures of places as they were reflected in the curved chrome (well-polished) hub-caps of his car.“

Over time he has become increasingly drawn to abstractions; to colour, blocks and blocks of colour; lines and shapes. Trying to get to the things that pictures are built from; the essential parts. “I found that I was producing colour saturated shapes, good examples of which can be seen in the images of things in extreme close-up that I have produced. My interest has developed into trying to get a similar effect of abstraction to that achieved by artists I admire, such as Rothko.”
